They say that "sex sells," and they would be quite right about that particular assertion. Take a look around you, the vast majority of what is sold to you is sold to you with sexuality as its primary vehicle and nearly all else is sold to you via subtle and not so subtle sexual subtext. Telling you that "sex sells" is about as novel as telling you that the ultra-rich are greedy, we all know this by heart at this point. However, in my experience, few aside from sex workers, who are often angelic people of light that society does not deserve, but I digress so more about that topic at a later date, have ever thought to harness (no pun intended) the power of sexuality for good.
At this point it is no secret that I am willing to get behind any positive movement that aims to promote and normalize masking in shared public and commercial spaces. I was delighted by the emergence of the #YallMasking movement and wrote a brief piece about it here on this blog. I was thrilled by the rightful cattiness of the #SaltingTheVibes movement and wrote a longer piece over on my Articles blog (which you may find under the Writing section of this website). I have not hidden my glee at seeing people taking action in regard to promoting masking in public, but in the back of my mind I have always wondered if it would not be prudent of the COVID informed community to utilize the power of sex appeal to further the aim of making masking a social norm.
Luckily, this seems to be exactly what is going on (at least on Twitter) at the moment. Unlike with the #Salting the vibes movement, I cannot say with certainty where exactly this particular movement got its start at this moment (this is why this piece is to be found here in my Musings blog rather than my Articles blog), but I have my suspicions. In my current estimation, this movement has two major origins. Firstly (this is the one that I become aware of first), a post that stated something to the affect that the people opposed to masking hate it when you serve COVID informed baddie. Secondly, a post that shared the portrait of a person that seems to be a handsome young man in a good looking business suit while wearing a respirator. These two seem to have been the impetus for the burgeoning movement. The former seems to have kickstarted the trend of posting sultry selfies. While the latter seems to have been the inspiration for the hashtag.
I will endeavor to do my due journalistic diligence (despite not being a journalist per say as I consider myself more of an observer and commentator) and track down the specific origins of this new moment. In time I hope to produce a comprehensive article on the birth of #ThirstMasking and the progression of what I hope will be a movement that grows to eclipse #YallMasking and #SaltingTheVibes at some point in the near future.
In the meantime, I will be ready to support the growth of this movement because as you may be well-aware we are currently in desperate need of a rise in the popularity of public masking. I truly believe that if anything has the potential to make public masking appealing to the masses its the power of sexuality. I am all for appealing to the population's need to feel sexually valid and sexually stimulated if it means that we can reduce (and hopefully eliminate) the viruses that threat to make living your sluttiest life a near impossibility in the future. There is far too much at stake at the moment to be prudish about popularizing a habit that will be key in bringing an end to the COVID era without sacrificing the health and lives of still more people beyond the millions that have already paid a heavy toll and in many cases the ultimate price. Therefore, I entreat you, If you are so inclined, to do yourself the best sexification that you can muster and post your sultry selfies with the aim to inspire others to mask up and do the same. Beseech these people to follow suit because we have a golden opportunity to save lives and be slutty. How often does that chance come around? So, I ask you, ya'll thirst masking?
