The American experiment died today. How can we continue to believe that the nation continues to exist as a republic? It has become painfully evident that we the people do not hold any power, much less political power. It is clear that both the power and the ability to exercise that power is in the hands of those elected and appointed to positions of political power. Furthermore, now more than ever, we know beyond the shadow of doubt that these people do not represent the will of the people but rather the interest of a corporate oligarchy, the disembodied citizenry of the new fascistic America.
With the decisions put forth today, the powers that be have granted themselves the ability to unilaterally impose their will on the people with impunity. The visions of the people for their nation have been rendered null and void as of today as it clear that both political and economic power lie square in the hands of the oligarchs, the ones that play puppeteer to both elected and appointed officials alike, as they have secured for themselves a new echelon of society far above the reach of the law.
How, then, can we continue to believe in the promises of the republic? The promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. How can we the people, as a people, continue to believe that this government continues to be of the people, by the people, for the people, and that it has not already perished from this earth slain at our feet before our eyes with the stroke of a traitorous pen?
