Before Consent

Before consent

we are, all of us,

much like paintings

in a gallery

Some may desire

to move in close

to trace the brushstrokes

with their fingertips

Yet must resist

the temptation

for they risk violating

the integrity and beauty of the work

For the paintings

are not theirs

to do with

as they wish

They must stay desires

and quietly admire

the masterwork

without interjection on their part
